Scotland Roadtrip: From Majestic Highlands to Charming Coastal Towns

and on the second day, I did some laps in Bikepark Wales. The bike park is highly recommended, with diverse trails that offer a lot of fun. The ascent is conveniently done by car shuttle, although pedaling is theoretically possible.
Our next stop took us to the signposted trail park in the Forest of Ae near Dumfries. There, we spent a day exploring the official trails with Anton before continuing our journey north to Glencoe the next day. Glencoe was the first place in the Highlands on our list. The Highlands are simply breathtaking and offer perfect hiking opportunities. Here, we went on a short hike and enjoyed nature.

We also visited the famous "Glenfinnan Viaduct" and saw the Harry Potter train – a real tourist attraction, so it was quite crowded. Nevertheless, it's a must-visit when in the area.
Our next three-day stop was in Fort William. Unfortunately, the downhill track in the bike park was closed as it was being prepared for the World Cup. After a day of shopping in the city and enjoying delicious cake with coffee, I decided to ride the trails around the bike park a day later. Most of the trails were listed on Trailforks, and along the way, I met locals who showed me the best routes. We arranged to meet the next day near the Wolftrax Laggan Trail Center. There, we rode unofficial but tolerated trails, which were undoubtedly the best I've ever ridden – so good that I returned later.

Next on our list was the Isle of Skye. No biking here, just hiking, relaxing, and enjoying the stunning views. We stayed in Portree and explored "The Old Man of Storr",

the "Fairy Pools"

and the magical "Fairy Glen".

from there. I must admit I didn't miss my bike for a moment because the hikes were simply breathtaking. I would even argue that I've never seen such impressive natural wonders before. Our next destination was Torridon, the northernmost point of our journey through Scotland. There, we went on a short hike, relaxed,
and enjoyed some delicious food. This place definitely had the best scones with clotted cream and cheddar fries.

From there, we headed back south to Glenmore and Aviemore. In Aviemore, I rode the local trails for a day – fun was guaranteed. But nothing could beat the trails in Laggan, where we made another stop on our way south and rode with the locals. Our last stop before the Ardrock Festival in England was Innerleithen. The Enduro World Series had already been there. The Golfie Trails were really fun, and the loamy ground promised lots of riding pleasure. There were trails for all skill levels as far as the eye could see. If you're ever there, you must have at least one coffee at "No1 Peebles Road".

We spent several days in Innerleithen and rode as many different trails as possible. Our final destination before heading back home was the famous Ardrock Festival in Reeth. I had registered for the enduro race, and I must admit it was one of the toughest races I've ever done. Not because of the stages, but the transfers and the weather were a real challenge. Of course, it rained right on time for the race, and the trails were extremely slippery. Still, I somehow enjoyed the race, but I was relieved when I reached the finish line in one piece.

After the race, I was able to enjoy the festival for a while longer and meet some nice people. From the Ardrock Festival, we drove back to Folkestone to catch the Eurotunnel. We had originally planned to make a stop in Cheddar because we had grown to love British Cheddar. However, I got quite sick after the race, so we drove directly to Folkestone.
The three weeks of vacation passed by quickly, but we were able to discover so many new places, trails, and meet nice people like we hadn't in a long time. Even the weather, by Scottish standards – let's call it "better than expected." Now, there are still two or three places on our list that we didn't get to visit in July, so this was definitely not our last vacation in the UK.
