Custom Bags, Thoughtfully Designed Down to the Last Detail
At Paprika Bags, product design, a passion for cycling and craftsmanship come together to create custom-made bags for people and bicycles. FIDLOCK fasteners are part of this approach whenever functionality, intuitive operation and minimalist design come together.
31-year-old product designer Roland has been making bespoke bags in Leipzig for four years. The idea came to him after graduating in Weimar, when he could not find a suitable bag for a long cycling trip and decided to sew one himself. What started as a personal solution grew into a brand of its own as friends began asking him to make bags for them, too.

Every Bag Starts with an Idea
Standard solutions do not always meet individual requirements. This is where Paprika Bags comes in. Before the first stitch is made, Roland talks to his customers about their wishes, needs and the items they want to carry in their bags.
For a frame bag, the bicycle itself becomes part of the process. Roland creates a template directly on the bike or digitally using photographs. He then visualises the bag to coordinate colours and design with the customer. Production only begins once everything is right.
For Roland, this individual approach makes his work particularly varied. Every bag brings new challenges and the opportunity to develop a different solution.
“What I particularly enjoy is the variety throughout the process, from designing and interacting with customers to the hands-on work of sewing each bag.”
Functionality Should Look Good, Too
Durability and functionality are at the heart of Roland’s work. He primarily uses lightweight, waterproof and reinforced backpack fabrics, combining them with high-quality zips and carefully selected components.
At the same time, a bag should do more than simply work well. It should feel good to use and be something people enjoy carrying. Colours, fabrics, cuts and details can all be customised, turning a functional bag into a personal product.
“As a designer, it is important to me to create good products in the broadest sense.”
The user experience is equally important. Which items need to be within easy reach? Which hand does the user prefer? How can the bag be attached to a bicycle or carried on the body? For Roland, these details are what make a good user experience.

FIDLOCK: When a Fastener Opens Up New Possibilities
Roland first discovered FIDLOCK through its magnetic bottle mounts. He was particularly impressed by how easy they were to use. He then incorporated the SNAP system into a two-part frame bag of his own design and received immediate positive feedback.
Since then, he has used FIDLOCK fasteners in a range of designs. For him, the benefits go beyond intuitive operation to include the creative possibilities they offer.
“With FIDLOCK fasteners, I can simplify my bags while enhancing their overall design.”

A Bag That Belongs on the Bike
This approach is particularly evident in the frame bags Roland created for the show bikes by Apriko Bikes and Leovelo, which were presented at the Bespoked bicycle show.
Using FIDLOCK SNAP, Roland was able to attach the bags to the bicycles without Velcro, straps or cords, while also protecting the paintwork. The attachment becomes almost invisible, leaving the handcrafted frames fully visible.
For Roland, this combination of function and design is essential. A bag should not simply be attached to a bicycle. It should integrate seamlessly into the bike, both technically and visually.
Made for People and Bicycles
The name of Roland’s brand reflects not only what he creates today but also the direction he wants to take in the future. While he currently makes many bicycle bags, he aims to focus more on bags designed for different body types and individual needs.
“I want my work to be inclusive of all body types. Beyond custom-made bags for cycling, I am also interested in developing solutions for other areas, such as orthopaedics.”
The principle remains the same: creating products that adapt to their users and accompany them for as long as possible.
The result is a collection of bags designed not just for a particular purpose, but for the people who actually use them.
